Assistant Laboratory Scientist (Biochemistry)

This is a great opportunity to work in our Poulton laboratory within our Biochemistry department. NationWide Laboratories, as an independent veterinary diagnostic laboratory, are dedicated to the improvement of animal health through direct support of veterinary practices in the UK and worldwide. We have been delivering service for over 30 years. NationWide Laboratories is a trading entity of National Veterinary Services Ltd. (NVSL).

What you will be doing

  • Sample reception.
  • Use of Biochemistry analysers including troubleshooting.
  • Identify and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Analysis of samples.
  • Use of the Matrix LIMS system and data entry.
  • Carryout Lab tests and review results based on appropriate experience level.
  • Maintenance and correct use of laboratory Equipment.
  • Preparation of reagents
  • General laboratory housekeeping.
  • Reception and ordering of stock and reagents.
  • Provide direct training and support to trainee Lab Scientists.
  • Testing of EQA and EQA scheme submission under minimal supervision.
  • Assist with method validation.
  • Environmental/temperature monitoring.
  • Adherence to written Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Controls, and Health & Safety rules
  • Identify own development needs
  • Works flexibly and collaboratively
  • Adopts role model behaviour, values and beliefs.
  • Plan own workload in association with Head of Dept.

Who we are looking for

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to plan own workload in association with senior staff.
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience (desirable)
  • Qualification in appropriate subject (vet nurse qualifications will also be considered)
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the important elements of laboratory testing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Computer literate.
